Today marks 5 years since our comrade Lorenzo Orsetti (Tekoşer Piling) gave his life while fighting with the Syrian Democratic Forces against the last bastion of the Islamic State in Syria, in Al-Baghuz Fawqani, Deir Ezzor. To honour his memory we are re-publishing his last journals and writings.
Lorenzo was an Italian anarchist from Florence, and he was a revolutionary in action and conviction. He took part in various organizations in Northeast Syria along the way, such as YPG International and TiKKO, and finally joining Tekoşîna Anarşîst. During his time here, he volunteered for every single assignment possible, from Afrin to Deir Ezzor, from one end of the liberated territory to the other.
We remember şehîd Tekoşer both with pain of his death and gratitude for his life. We celebrate his efforts he has given to defend the revolution, and just like Lorenzo, we believe too, that there are things in this life that are worth giving one’s life for.
Heval Tekoşer brought us all many valuable lessons, and as the years go by we remember him, reflect his contribution and draw lessons from the past.
Lorenzo was a good comrade, and a close friend to many, warmly remembered by people of Northeast Syria who have met him.
In his last letter, ş. Tekoşer wrote:
“I wish all of you all the best in the world and I hope that one day, you too will decide to give your life for others (if you haven’t already) because that is the only way to change the world.
Only by combatting the individualism and egoism in each of us can we make a difference. These are difficult times, I know, but don’t give in to despair, don’t ever abandon hope, never! Not even for a second.
Even when all seems lost, when the evils that plague the earth and humanity seem insurmountable, you must find strength, you must inspire strength in your comrades.”
We treasure his words and we hope they can bring you as much inspiration as they brought to us. A part of us died with him, and a part of him lives on with us. We congratulate and celebrate the living memory of Lorenzo.
